Iranian hacker obscure Twitter for an hour
A group of Iran, the Iranian Cyber Army has hijacked the site of Twitter. The news of the transaction are not yet complete, since Twitter is still investigating. According to preliminary information, it seems that the attack was executed by changing the domain name system (DNS) to twitter.com, so that the homepage was redirected to a page which featured the logo of the group of hackers and a green flag with written in Arabic. The attack, which occurred for near about one hour From 10 PM to 11 PM Pacific Time, quite a long time for network in which the screen of Twitter has been replaced by ‘IRANIAN CYBER ARMY ‘
Then the situation is back to normal, and the microblogging site has begun to operate. That’s the word networking by pirates, complete with e-mail: “This site has been pirated by ‘Iranian Cyber Army. The United States believed to control and manage their Internet access, but wrong. It is we who control and manage the network with our power, so do not try to provoke the Iranian people. Now, what country is on the list of the embargo? Iran? the U.S.? “. Then a “smile” and two words: “Take care, greetings. In addition, some sentences in Persian praising the Supreme Guide, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and threats to the reform movement Green Wave. US media outlet Fox News reports that the Arabic writing above the flag reads, “Hezbollah is victorious.”
According to reports, the group claimed the cyber attack was not immediately recognized by the investigators. The action could be taken as a reprisal action in the United States government, which during the protests against the Iranian election had intervened to Twitter to remain a tool of the demonstrators in Tehran. In particular, the hottest day of the protest, the Obama administration had asked the operators of social networks to postpone a service job that would lead to temporary deactivation of the site. Twitter, a social network of the world’s most popular and ambitious, has already been the protagonist of other attacks and slowdowns in the past. .
Currently, the Twitter is limited to comment on the incident with a post: “The DNS Twitter have been compromised at the moment, but have now been restored. We are trying to understand the cause of the incident. We will update soon with more info” .
Rick Furguson of Trend Micro commented that “this kind of DNS hijacking usually involves compromising the registrar responsible for the DNS records of the victim company, the attackers then make unauthorized changes to the DNS records. These changes mean that when you or I type a web site address into our browsers, we are directed not to the real web site but to a second site, set up by the hackers, in this case the ‘Iranian Cyber Army’. This has the net effect of making it look like, in this example, servers belonging to Twitter were compromised when in reality that was not the case.”

Times Person of the Year 2009
Ben Bernanke
By MICHAEL GRUNWALD Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009
A bald man with a gray beard and tired eyes is sitting in his oversize Washington office, talking about the economy. He doesn't have a commanding presence. He isn't a mesmerizing speaker. He has none of the look-at-me swagger or listen-to-me charisma so common among men with oversize Washington offices. His arguments aren't partisan or ideological; they're methodical, grounded in data and the latest academic literature. When he doesn't know something, he doesn't bluster or bluff. He's professorial, which makes sense, because he spent most of his career as a professor.
He is not, in other words, a typical Beltway power broker. He's shy. He doesn't do the D.C. dinner-party circuit; he prefers to eat at home with his wife, who still makes him do the dishes and take out the trash. Then they do crosswords or read. Because Ben Bernanke is a nerd. (See pictures of Ben Bernanke's life from childhood to chairmanship.)
He just happens to be the most powerful nerd on the planet.
Bernanke is the 56-year-old chairman of the Federal Reserve, the central bank of the U.S., the most important and least understood force shaping the American — and global — economy. Those green bills featuring dead Presidents are labeled "Federal Reserve Note" for a reason: the Fed controls the money supply. It is an independent government agency that conducts monetary policy, which means it sets short-term interest rates — which means it has immense influence over inflation, unemployment, the strength of the dollar and the strength of your wallet. And ever since global credit markets began imploding, its mild-mannered chairman has dramatically expanded those powers and reinvented the Fed.
Professor Bernanke of Princeton was a leading scholar of the Great Depression. He knew how the passive Fed of the 1930s helped create the calamity — through its stubborn refusal to expand the money supply and its tragic lack of imagination and experimentation. Chairman Bernanke of Washington was determined not to be the Fed chairman who presided over Depression 2.0. So when turbulence in U.S. housing markets metastasized into the worst global financial crisis in more than 75 years, he conjured up trillions of new dollars and blasted them into the economy; engineered massive public rescues of failing private companies; ratcheted down interest rates to zero; lent to mutual funds, hedge funds, foreign banks, investment banks, manufacturers, insurers and other borrowers who had never dreamed of receiving Fed cash; jump-started stalled credit markets in everything from car loans to corporate paper; revolutionized housing finance with a breathtaking shopping spree for mortgage bonds; blew up the Fed's balance sheet to three times its previous size; and generally transformed the staid arena of central banking into a stage for desperate improvisation. He didn't just reshape U.S. monetary policy; he led an effort to save the world economy.

Dow at new '09 high
A better-than-expected reading on consumer spending and sentiment propels the blue chip average to the highest point in 14 months. But a strong dollar limits gains.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Better-than-expected reports on retail sales and consumer sentiment lifted big blue chip stocks Friday, but gains were limited by weakness in technology and the strength of the U.S. dollar.
The Dow Jones industrial average (INDU) rose 66 points, or 0.6%, to finish at its highest level of 2009. The S&P 500 index (SPX) gained 4 points, or 0.4%. The Nasdaq composite (COMP) ended little changed. The Dow and the S&P ended the week higher, but the Nasdaq slipped.
Big consumer stocks Coca-Cola (KO, Fortune 500), McDonald's (MCD, Fortune 500) and Walt Disney (DIS, Fortune 500) were among the Dow's gainers. Conglomerates General Electric (GM, Fortune 500) and 3M (MMM, Fortune 500) also gained, reflecting some economic optimism.
"The retail sales look good today and that's helping, but there could be a report next week that doesn't look as good," said Bernard McGinn, CEO at McGinn Investment Management. "People are reading into the market whatever they want to at the moment, because they're basically done for the year."
Trading volume has been light so far this month and trading more volatile as investors close the books early on a tumultuous year. As of Friday's close, the S&P 500 has gained 64% since closing at a 12-year low on March 9.
Stocks jumped across the board Thursday as investors sorted through reports on jobs, housing, net worth and the deficit. But investors worked to sustain that advance Friday amid a deluge of information.
Additionally, the major stock indexes are bumping up against multi-month highs, with the Dow flirting with a fresh 14-month high, as of Friday afternoon, and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq sitting just below those same levels.
Consumer: Better-than-expected reports on retail sales and consumer sentiment helped soothe worries about the economy in the first half of 2010.
Weak consumer spending has threatened to crater a still-burgeoning recovery, particularly once the fiscal and monetary stimulus that has propped up the economy starts to wind down.
Retail sales climbed 1.3% in November, the Commerce Department reported Friday, easily surpassing analysts' forecasts for a rise of 0.7%. Sales rose 1.1% in October.
Sales excluding autos rose 1.2% after showing no change in October. Economists thought sales would rise 0.4%.
The University of Michigan's consumer sentiment index rose to 73.4 from 67.4, versus forecasts for a rise to 68.8.
Market movers: Boeing (BA, Fortune 500), Coca-Cola (KO, Fortune 500), McDonald's (MCD, Fortune 500), United Technologies (UTX, Fortune 500) and Alcoa (AA, Fortune 500) were among the Dow's big winners.
United Technologies rose 2.2% a day after it forecast that profits would rise about 10% in 2010.
Alcoa rose as part of a bullish note on the mining sector from JPMorgan Chase.
Market breadth was positive and volume was light. On the New York Stock Exchange, winners topped losers two to one on volume of 1.02 billion shares. On the Nasdaq, advancers beat decliners three to two on volume of 1.76 billion shares.
World markets: Overseas markets gained. In Europe, London's FTSE 100 rose 0.3%, the German DAX rose 0.8% and France's CAC 40 rose 0.1%. Asian markets rose, with the Japanese Nikkei adding 2.5%.
Dollar: The dollar gained versus the euro and yen, continuing its recent recovery march after having slid for the better part of the year.
The weak dollar has helped stocks rally over the past nine months, giving a boost to dollar-traded commodity shares and the stocks of companies that do business overseas. But over the last two weeks, the dollar has churned or moved higher, cutting into commodity gains and the
Commodities: The stronger U.S. dollar pressured dollar-traded commodity prices, with gold and oil both sliding.
COMEX gold for February delivery fell $6.30 to settle at $1,119.90 an ounce. Gold closed at an all-time high of $1,218.30 an ounce last week.
U.S. light crude oil for January delivery fell 67 cents to settle at $69.87 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Bonds: Treasury prices fell, raising the yield on the 10-year note to 3.55% from 3.5% late Wednesday.
Treasury prices and yields move in opposite directions.

Windows 7 complaints begin
Users of the new operating system say the upgrading process is buggy. But once the kinks are worked out, customers are liking Windows 7 a lot more than Vista.

Microsoft Windows is by far the most widely used operating system in the world, but there were a few big bumps in the road on the way to global domination.

A whopping 31% of clients have reported problems with upgrading to Windows 7, according to a recent survey of more than 100,000 customers conducted by consumer helpdesk firm iYogi.
"Most of the problems that customers have with Windows 7 have to do with installation, or application and data migration," said Vishal Dhar, co-founder of iYogi. "These are all fixable problems, but they're annoyances and they're time consuming."
Tanker Stocks Due for a Long Haul
Tanker Stocks Due for a Long Haul

About this article:
We have lots of talk these days about the outrageous amount of oil being stored in ships around the globe. To me, this huge number, which seems to grow by the day, seems like an incredible manipulation to keep prices high, but the motivation is neither here nor there. The reality is that rates are moving up gigantically because of it. Right now, according to the Lloyd's shipping newspaper, we are seeing 149 ships now deployed for temporary storage, a jump of 29, and they include 37 of the very large crude carriers, 17 smaller ones and 95 long-range product tankers. Lloyd's reports that 30 of these storage facilities are chartered right from the shipyards. Rates are skyrocketing to $32,000 a day -- the highest since July, and I think they are going higher because there is so much demand for temporary storage.
